We produce more energy than we consume.
In our effort to reduce the ecological footprint, namely in the greenhouse gas balance, we chose to install a solar energy production unit. This unit ensures all our energy consumption and also exports energy to the grid. The target proposed for the use of renewable energy by the Green Deal is 32% and at Herdade da Parreira 100% was reached.
Another strong reduction in CO2 emissions is achieved by direct sowing, which allows an 86% reduction in the energy associated with the installation of the crop. In the conventional system, soil mobilization and sowing require about 4.5h/ha of traction, while the technology used at Herdade da Parreira requires only 45min/ha, and a lower hourly fuel consumption because it requires less traction effort.
Increasing the efficiency of irrigation and the use of agrochemicals is an additional and very significant contribution to reducing energy consumption.
